tattoo INTERVIEW WITH Moni Marino | black barock, Germany 15/08/2012

Q: When did you start doing tattoos? What made you to become a tattoo artist?
A: I've always been into drawing and painting. I was 14 when I discovered that you can draw on your skin permanently. This idea fascinated me so I decided to try and it become the biggest love of my life.

Q: Why tattoo artist?
A: I've been always interested in Tattoo Art and I'm obsessed with Oil painting. I Love It.

Q: Do you have any influences?
A: I admire a lot of tattoo artists, my favorites are Randy Engelhard, Nikko Hurtado und Jose Lopez.

Q: Some people say that it is possible to be self though artist. What are your thoughts about this?
A: I believe that artists are born, you must have blood, you can not learn it at school or at a seminar.

Q: Artists are constantly making some changes in their style, technically and artistically. How has your work developed over the years?
A: I started tattooing 20 years ago. I was fascinated by the Chicano in Black/Gray style. Over time I was experimenting new techniques and new machines and now I do colorful realistic tattoos the most.

Q: I can see a lot of custom tattoos. In which designs you find most creative freedom?
A: I take inspiration from my Life.. I love Psycho designs ... lol ...;)

Q: I can see a lot of face-expression in almost every tattoo. Do you consider this type of work as your spatiality or simply something you enjoy the most?
A: I try to give emotions through my art. I believe that the emotions you may feel better through the eyes of a woman or a child, this is the reason why I do a lot of portrait tattoos.

Q: Looking at some of your masterpieces makes me want to get a tattoo. :) Are you always "the main" creator in someone's tattoo idea?
A: Thank you :) The customer tells me his idea or his life experience, according to this, I prepare the design that reflects the experience.

Q: Were there any strange requests, or there are no such?
A: Have happened to some strange requests but ironic or stupid tattoo does not fall into my style.

Q: What kind of tattoos people like the most?
A: I believe that most people like the Old Chicano Style, the New Traditional Style and the Photo-Realistic Tattoo Style.

Q: To be a good-looking tattoo artist, I guess is a great start to be well know, or I'm wrong? :) How people react on you?
A: I Think this it's not very important. If you are a good-looking tattoo artist and your work is not good, you have no chance.

Q: What are the most interesting experiences with the customers?
A: The best experiences are those experiences unfortunately more sad. Is not easy to tattoo a person who suffers the loss of a friend or  a family member, between the tattooist and the customer reinforces a very strong bond of trust and hope to feel better with the new Tattoo.

Q: In the past few years, there are many tattoo artists trying to develop a unique style, what people can expect from you?
A: I'm so happy because I know the people can see if one Tattoo is done by me, they says "That's a Moni Marino's Tattoo!" I love this! I can not explain. I try to become better and better and better ... There is no End.

Q: Art could be a great influence on someone's personality. What is the best lesson that you've learned from your tattoo journey?
A: I have learned that we must continue to strive to achieve our dreams, is not easy, is a very long and difficult road but if you have the strength to continue you will attain calmness and serenity.

Q: In a few words, what are the most important things that every single artist should know in order to become successful and respected?
A: Tenacity, professionalism, respect, humility.
